Open Source Handbook "A manager's guide to the business and organisational applications of open source technologies"

Apps

There are a huge number of applications for mobile internet handsets. Many of these are closed source, but there is a growing community that is developing open source applications. Android applications - both free and paid-for - are available from the Android Market which can be accessed from a suitable handset or from the Android Market on the internet.

For the Apple iPhone there is the App Store and there are also two useful directory websites which contain listings of the latest open source apps:

  • Open Source iPhone Directory. This is a resource for iPhone app developers to share, find and rate open source apps and other open source iPhone information. iphonedev.com
  • Open Source iPhone Software. A listing of open source and free software for the iPhone. opensourceiphonesoftware.com

The vast majority of applications are for entertainment rather than business purposes. Here below is a (small) selection of those applications which will be of use to business.
