A small version of Linux that can run off a CD or USB stick. This makes it possible to run on computers which have no disk drive ("thin workstation") or which have a faulty drive. Once the operating system has been booted, the CD or USB stick can be removed and the drive can then be used to store the user's data. puppylinux.org
